R.I.P. GATEKEEPER BROTHER MAURICE BOLTE

ROCKFORD #140

It is with sadness to inform you that Brother Maurice Bolte passed away Friday evening. Funeral arrangements are pending but the family has requested an Odd Fellow service at the visitation. Will inform you of final arrangements.

To All Northern Illinois Rebirth Oddfellows:

The passing of Gatekeeper Brother Maurice marks a heavy loss for our Rebirth Lodges and the Jurisdiction of Illinois as a whole. Brother Maurice was one of the handful of Gatekeeper Oddfellows that truly held an open hand to those that had an "Unseemly exterior but possessed a true heart" in a time when it was frowned upon by other members of the Order. Brother Maurice was a founding father and Gatekeeper of the Rebirth Lodges of Northern Illinois. He lived by the Tenants of our Order and taught by pure example of a simple Oddfellow with his hand opened to those in need. He lived his entire life as an Oddfellow starting with the Oddfellows Children Home and had accomplished the highest Rank in Illinois as an Oddfellow...his Odd-accolades are many. Brother Maurice never let the "what he did" ever get in front of the what he was...that was a true Oddfellow in his words and actions. Our hearts go out to his family and his home Lodge Rockford #140.

Together we will ride with the pride of respect for our Gatekeeper and perform our last duty to an Oddfellow. For those that ride we will be leaving Century Lodge #492 @ 10:30 sharp. We will make one stop at Miss Kitty's Saloon in Marengo by11:30 with pullout being at Noon sharp. We will travel Rt. 20 to Alpine Rd. in Rockford and head to the Funeral home arriving by 1pm. We are working on a police escort through Rockford for the protection of the pack. All Illinois Rebirth Oddfellows will be required to wear your R.I.P. armbands on your left arm only. Vehicles may follow the pack or arrive at the funeral home by 1pm.

While there is not much that is mandatory in Oddfellowship; laying to rest of our last Original Gatekeeper is for all of us.
